Before the presidency, before the Great Society, there was a modest house on a quiet street in Johnson City, Texas. The LBJ Boyhood Home is where Lyndon Baines Johnson spent his formative years, and today it stands fully restored as part of LBJ National Historical Park. Guided tours led by National Park Service rangers bring the home and the Johnson family story to life, offering a rare and intimate look at the early life of the 36th President of the United States. The home is a short walk from the Johnson Settlement and the park visitor center, making it easy to build a full half-day of presidential history right in the middle of downtown Johnson City. Free to visit, and unlike anywhere else in the Hill Country.
